Farming in the New Zealand high country is a way of life – and it’s one you can get up close to at Walter Peak.

Situated on picturesque Lake Whakatipu’s south-western shores, Walter Peak High Country Farm is an idyllic place to spend a relaxing few hours. The farm tour itself is a wonderful, interactive experience, with something to keep everyone entertained and happy.

You will be greeted by our rural host upon disembarking the TSS Earnslaw, who will take you to the amphitheatre, where you will watch the remarkable skill with which the farm dogs round up sheep from the paddocks.

You will have time for a walking tour of the farmyard, visiting the holding pens, where you can help feed the sheep and deer and even get up close to the Scottish Highland Cattle. Then a stroll to the charming old woolshed for morning or afternoon tea. You may have time to stroll through the lakeside gardens before you re-board the TSS Earnslaw for your cruise back to Queenstown.

Booking

  • A minimum of 2 adults must be attending the tour for the tour to take place.
  • Application for a tour must be made by phone, fax or e-mail no later than 5:00 PM of the day before the tour.
  • Your application may not be accepted if the tour is full, prior to your booking.
  • Hobbiton Movie Set is closed on Christmas Day.

Cancellation & Refund Policy

Cancellations and refunds are based on the working day we receive your request. Please note that requests must must be received before 5 PM ( NZT ) to be processed on that working day.

  • Cancellations made more than 72 hours before the tour start time are free of charge.
  • Cancellations made between 72 and 48 hours before the tour start time will incur a 50% cancellation fee.
  • Cancellations made within 48 hours of the tour start time will be charged the full tour fee.
  • If you are not present at the specified pick-up location at the departure time, the tour must depart without you.
  • No refunds will be made after travel has commenced.
  • Refunds for Paypal payments do not include card fees ( 3% ) as per Paypal terms & conditions.
The above cancellation policy may have exceptions for certain tours, which will be communicated to you at the time of booking.

Tour Costs

  • If there are two adults attending the tour, the cost of the tour written is the cost for one person.
  • If there are two adults attending the tour, children ( aged 5~11 ) will cost half of what is written.

  • Please understand that changes of schedule, cost and tours may occur with no notice.
